Multiple techniques can be used to create sculptures, including:
Carving: Removing material to reveal the form; common with stone, wood and ivory.
Modeling: Adding and shaping malleable materials like clay, wax and plaster.
Casting: Creating a mold and pouring molten or liquid material into it; typically bronze, resin, aluminum or glass.
Assembling/Construction: Building a sculpture from separate parts or found objects like welded metal constructions or mixed media assemblages.
Additive 3-D & Digital Fabrication: Using digital tools to create forms, including 3D printing and CNC carving
Sculptures can be created out of just about any material. The most popular materials are:
Metal: Bronze, iron, aluminum, steel Wood: carved or constructed: can be rustic, polished, painted or burned. Clay & Terracotta: Typically used for modeling or finished ceramics.
Plaster: Used for models, molds and occasionally final pieces.
