Your art often seems to weave a sense of magic and mysticism into the everyday. What inspires you to create such enchanting pieces, and how do you infuse your work with that ethereal quality?

My Larger than Life series is inspired by the natural world and the beauty in small, overlooked details. Insects and flowers exist all around us in our everyday life yet, you can often miss the unique and beautiful colours and patterns. I focus on bringing these beautiful yet intricate details to life by blowing them up to an unnatural scale. My work feels giant, yet my subject matter starts very small.

Your use of color and texture is truly captivating. Can you share a bit about your creative process?

How do you decide on the elements that will bring your vision to life? My work is largely inspired by real animals and plants that I have interacted with. Before I start each painting I spend hours planning and mixing by hand each colour and filling up hundreds of bottles with the new colours. The dots I paint are small, yet the colour of each and every dot is crucial to bring my work to life.

Nature appears to play a significant role in your artwork. What is it about the natural world that speaks to you, and how do you translate that connection into your art?

Growing up in the Bahamas, I was surrounded by vibrant and colourful landscapes that shaped my appreciation for nature. Growing up I would catch small insects and fish. I was always captivated by the variety that existed just in our backyard!

Many of your pieces evoke a sense of wonder and introspection. What emotions or thoughts do you hope to awaken in those who experience your work?

My technique is to create movement through texture and light with tiny, intentional dots, symbolising the energy connecting all living things. By presenting subjects like insects, flowers and animals on a larger-than-life scale, I aim to evoke wonder and highlight the extraordinary in the everyday.

We’re excited to have you at the upcoming event in Whistler. What are you most looking forward to during the meet and greet, and how do you hope to connect with the Whistler community through your art?

I’m excited to return to Whistler and share my work with the community. Whistler is beautiful, and I find myself inspired every time I visit. I look forward to meeting people who have not discovered my work yet and those who have watched my art develop over the years.
